Shawneeland Woods Fire
Fri. Jul 30th 2010

Friday afternoon companies 19, 14 and the Forest Warden were alerted for a woods fire in the 1200 block of Rockwood Trail in Shawneeland. Attack 19 went in route with two and dispatch advised that a second call had come in and the fire was possibly on Archwood Trail. Chief 19 responded with the Brush while Sergeant 19 brought the Wagon for water supply. Company 14 responded with the Brush and Tanker and as units climbed the Mountain, Chief 19 requested Brush 16 to respond due to the incident location. Attack 19 arrived to find the fire behind 1200 Rockwood Trail. Brush 19 made access into the woods followed by Brush 16 and 14. Chief 19 reported about an acre involved in a laurel thicket and had Ops-2 (Lt. Cattlet) establish command upon his arrival. Brush 19 deployed the 200' forestry line and began to work the head of the fire while Brush 14 took the right flank and Brush 16 took the left. After the fire was knocked down, crews began the laboring task of dropping trees and mopping up. All three brush trucks (and the crews)  took a beating and got the job done. Units finally cleared after about 6 hours.
