Wagon Is First In To Second Due Chimney Fire
Wed. Jan 13th 2010

Just after the Wagon marked back in quarters from an electrical hazard, the tones started dropping for a chimney fire at 660 Fall Run Lane in Co. 17's area.  Wagon 19 marked up with 4 and the Chief followed by Ambulance 19-1.  Wagon 19 arrived and reported a 1 story SFD with fire showing from the chimey and the Chief 19 would hold command.  The crew from the Wagon went to the stove in the basement to begin a clean out while Wagon 19's driver (Lt. 19) climbed to the roof and tossed a few chimney bombs to calm it down.  Smoke was noticed pushing from around the chimney and flashing.  While Chief 19 was making a lap, smoke was discovered from the Delta side pushing from the roofline and under the gable ends.  Lt. 19 stretched a dry line to the second floor while crews located an attic access.  Command quickly advised of a possilbe attic fire and upgraded the assignment.  This brought Engine 19, RE-15, Tanker 17, Tanker 12, and Shenandoah County Engine 51.  Due to an extremely narrow driveway and limited access for a dump site, Wagon 17's driver and Rescue Lt. 19 handjacked LDH back the driveway to the main road to Engine 17.  The crew off of Wagon 19 checked the attic and encountered heat and smoke conditions but no fire.  It was later discovered that the chimney was cracked from the ground to the roof and this caused the smoke conditions throughout the home.  Command held units on scene and continued Tanker 12 while the rest of the assignment was cancelled.  The fire was contained to the chimney and crews had it under control in about an hour and the attic was checked again.  Command gave the order for all crews to take up at 2105Hrs.  Units were released at arouind 2120Hrs.
