History of North Mountain Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company
Welcome to North Mountain Volunteer Fire and Rescue Co. Inc. North Mountain is a rural fire company that was organized in 1973. The station settles at the base of Great North Mountain in the western portion of Frederick County Virginia. The land that the building sits on was donated by Thomas Rosenberger, a local farmer and one of the first fire chiefs of North Mountain Fire Company. Our building is still the same exception for the addition of some more bays, and a large banquet hall.
North Mountain operated a First Responder program until 1989-1990, when the first ambulance was purchased. North Mountain was one of the first transporting agencies in Frederick County. North Mountain has seen major growth over the years, the company now runs over 400 calls per year and operates 9 pieces of equipment.
A Search and Rescue Team was organized in the early 90's that serves Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and multiple other areas. The search and rescue team utilizes a pick-up truck that was donated by the Frederick County Sherriff's Office, and a Moblie Command unit that was aquried by a local school system. These units join 7 others in our fleet, which include 2 medic units, 2 pumpers, 1 brush truck, a quick attack truck, and a utility.
The company operates with approximately 40 members as well as 2 day time career staff and a company auxillary. North Mountain is now planning for the future. Hopefully the addition of a new tanker truck will aid in our objectives. A new transport unit was placed in service in March of 2009. North Mountain also has plans to add yet another addition to make room for our ever growing company and communtiy.
